skillseeker is used by many of the world’s leading organizations.
In 2002 Total Inter Action (TIA) and CEB Global, now Gartner, developed the initial 3 levels of skill definitions to assess skills required to help Symantec transform from selling consumer products to selling enterprise solutions. The skills benchmarking was recognised as a key part in the project’s success.
The definitions and skills continued to be perfected based on further research by Huthwaite of over 10,000 sales people in 23 countries, plus more than 16 years of TIA’s experience working with ICT clients on transformative journeys.
Global Best Practice reflects the average of expected skill ratings from multiple workshops run by TIA to establish the desired skills and behaviours for technical sales roles. Workshops have been run with global IT and ICT companies that include 4 of the current Fortune 500, 6 of Forbes Top 100 Digital Companies and 4 of Fortune’s World’s Best Places to Work.
Industry Average is the average of the current / actual scores of over 3,000 people in technical sales roles in the ICT and IT companies.
These levels indicate three different approaches to each skill. In addition to the above research and experience, they were developed using research by Deloitte Access Economics white papers eg. Soft Skills Development Needs and Methods in Micro-Companies of ICT Sector. A person’s individual skills report reflects the gaps between their approach at time of completion and the level expected for that skill.
TIA leveraged its 26 years developing scenarios for technical sales people in over 15 countries. The scenarios and multi-choice answers were co-developed with tech sales subject matter experts in Australia, North America, Singapore and the UK.
